Hi Karen,

Thanks for the new board. I am pumped. I lurk all the time but this topic moves me to speak.

I am a big believer in herbs for helping all sorts of things from hair to skin and overall body, which is important for great hair.

I have been playing with Kava lately with great results and have noticed some impact to myhair. Kava is a South Pacific root that is for anti-anxiety.

I like kava because it helps w/ my anxiety, stress and seems to help my hair because overall I am less tense.

Just thought I would share about kava & say thanks.

Hi MFC,

Thanks for your kind words. I hope you will come back often to share your interests. I love to talk about everything from herbs and oils to treatments and even hair rituals. I know a woman that actually does rituals and spells for hair and beauty. It is fascinating and I almost expect to bump into Scott Cunningham when I go to her house. She was telling me a lot about how hair is used in rituals just the other day. I will have to write some notes and share them with this board.

Best wishes,
Karen

The FDA has a posted warning about Kava. Though you might like to see this. I think this means that you should check w/ your physician before going ahead with Kava products.

Kava (Piper methysticum)

http://www.fda.gov/medwatch/SAFETY/2001/safety01.htm#kava

Audience: Gastroenterologists, Hepatologists, and healthcare professionals
FDA informs healthcare professionals that products containing herbal extracts of kava have been implicated in Europe in at least 25 cases of serious liver toxicity including hepatitis, cirrhosis, and liver failure. FDA requests the assistance of healthcare professionals in reviewing cases of liver toxicity to determine if any may be related to the use of kava-containing dietary supplements, and reporting such cases to MedWatch.

Good point.

I have had my share of run ins with herbs vs modern medicines. I am fortunate enough to have a back specialist that is an herbalist himself and knows what I do. Unlike my last doctor that told me I was ff my rocker for actually believing *that* would help me (I was explaining that my husband was doing chakra balancing to open up energy flows on me). Well it did, and he didn`t last long.

My current doctor will ask what herbs/EOs I am currently using and plan prescriptions that way or just say "as long as you are on this (med), you cant use that (herb/oil)." He is very open and honest with me and we have some really good discussions. I think in these days that is rare, esp when most docs see you as a number.
