I heard that if you use a Q-tip dipped in peppermint oil that will kill the little suckers. Does that work? Any other alternative suggestions or recipes?
For head lice treat the scalp with an alcohol rub that includes essential oils. Pour 4 ounces of vodka (any brand) into a glass. Mix in 10 drops of either juniper, geranium, lavender or peppermint essential oil. Peppermint might sting some sensitive scalps and so if this is the case, remember that as a general rule lavender would probably be more gentle.
Rub this formula into the scalp at night and wrap with a shower cap or other covering. Shampoo it off the next morning. Since this will kill the lice you will need a "nit" comb to remove the eggs and dead lice. You will also need to repeat treatment if you don`t remove all the lice in the first treatment.
It is not good to apply any essential oil directly to the scalp. It is best to use the essential oils in some form of carrier such as carrier oils (olive, almond, etc.,) or some other liquid formula like the rub above.
Let me know if you have more questions.
Best wishes, Karen
