Hair Extensions Have Ruined My Life…

About a year ago, I had my first bonded extensions (Great Lengths) applied, and they looked really good. My hair has always been fine, lifeless, and damaged, so the extensions really helped me. Three months later, when I had them removed, I was mortified. My hairdresser used acetone to remove them, and basically had to rip them out of my head. The bonds were like dried bubblegum, the roots were matted, and the whole process hurt like hell. Even worse, when he removed them, I had hardly any hair left on my head—only a few, sparse long strands, while most of my hair was about an inch long (before the extensions, it was basically all shoulder length). He said that this happens with all of his clients and that there’s really no other way to remove them. And he’s been doing this for years and has a good reputation.

I’ve had the extensions redone three times since, and now I feel completely trapped. I’m basically bald without them, and each time they’re removed the situation gets worse--and the cost for these things is outrageous (I’m paying $2600 each time). I really can’t afford to do this for much longer, but I just can’t wear my hair the way it is or get a crew cut. I don’t want to use Hairlocs or Eurolocs because I had them once before and they were very noticeable, also caused some damage, and kept slipping out. Is there any way for me to pay less money with a system that will let me hair grow out a little? I’m open to all suggestions—braids, dreads, pinch braids, real, synthetic, whatever…..

I use the lord & cliff brand, and they dont need anything harsh to remove them. The bonds break down with oil.
The maintenance is every 2-3 weeks.
This doesnt mean replacing the entire head, only the ones that have come out. I have them in and I usually "shed" 20-30 peices every 2-3 weeks. My hair is very oily. I've been wearing them for over a year and my real hair has grown the longest its every been!
My hair is very fine..but strong.
I would definitly recommend this kind of extension.

yeah change hair dressers... he is good with doing hair but he sho aint helping with the growth..


you should of had them sewn in french braids its alot better and 3 months is a long time to be keeping in that hair anyways....why would u spend 2,600 dollars and it not helping you out? thats just messed up.

you are not suppose to use acetone he suppose to use bond remover is especially made for bonding.

you need to rethink this. now you spent all that money to have your hair basically removed!!!!!

Hi, I was just reading your post and first let me say how sorry I am that the GL's people did not tell you the truth about the hair loss you would experience using their procedure. Currently I'm wearing a braided in weave because I can't afford the process...YET!!! One day I will get it done. Hope this helps! Have a blessed day!
