I got naturally straight thick hair. I want it to be a lil curly so I can grow something to get nice cornrows.

Anyone have tips how to get your hair curly enuf.

Heck yeah! Cornrows are so sexy, I am lucky to have a neighbor who has been doing them for years, she is excellent.

Anyways, simply get a perm. My first perm was a disaster, it overprocessed and made it a puffy and nappy afro. I guess this is what you want, so you can get a overprocessed perm.

Or just get a normal correct perm but end up with curls instead of puffy frizz.

PS. It's okay for guys to get perms, in the 80s it was so common. It's just a matter of hair.

Hi there. I guess from the other post you are a guy. Wavey hair looks good on guys. Talk to your hairstylist and explain what you are thinking of in terms of waves, curls and the perm. If you want curls but are not sure about a perm, ask them to set your hair in rollers. Don't be shy about it, if you don't like it they can wash it out. Better to give it a day or two and you will get used the look. Your hair will need to be about 3 to 4 inch to get the best results. The stylist will wash your hair then put mousse or setting gel in your hair and wind in rollers. They will have to tie a hair net on to hold it all in place before you sit under a dryer for about half an hour. Even I felt a liittle embarished the first time I had a set in a salon but now I get one every week or so. Its good to see guys thinking about their appearance. XXX DD

Look man, I got a perm, and its cool and all... but lets just say... you will be laughed at and stuff. My hair was kinda curly, but now its really curly, the only thing is that take care of the front hair because then itll began to uncurl and be limp. My hair is pretty long, maybe just 4 inches or something. Im thinking of getting another one when this perm is outgrow, cause then, my hair will just be dreadlocked.

really you should stay with straight hair because it gives you more hangtime on the ends of your braids(if u get them) which is good but if u still want to get afro type get a blowout kit itll leave your hair strait but itll be up like a fro.Ive been having braids for a year now and now i want my hair straight

Kit- http://www.allurebeautysupply.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=509

Grease(helps grow faster)- http://www.allurebeautysupply.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=254

i use both of them

i think it's cute that you like afro hair texture. so many people hate our natural hair.

anyway, that blowout kit is really a texturizer designed for afrocoily/curly type hair to loosen it so that it is "softer" and easier to comb while blowing out. the heat from the blowdrier straightens the hair to make it looser so that it will look longer styled. that kit is not designed for straight hair at all.

get a supercurly (poodle) perm. straighties and curlies usually hate those but that's close to afro type hair. it will have the grip you need to hold the style.

good luck.
be careful... life is bitter sweet. we are living in a world of hate

Alright, so I have to get a perm and not condition it to get it best to look like an all out afro, But I still have a couple questions...

How long does my hair have to be to get a perm, and what kind of perm do I ask the stylist to do?

And will my hair be easier to braid if I get one, and if I do when I pick the braids out will my perm stay or will my hair straighten?

Thanks in advanced.
