Hi Styne,

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding.

When a bride has ear length hair there are still some great options for dressing her hair up. One instant way is to change the texture of the hair. If it is stick straight then have your bride-to-be consider wearing it with some slight finger waves, soft curls or lightly waved all over. If it is curly or wavy then consider blowing it out straight and then adding a good serum to get a high shine and wearing it sleek. The key is for your bride to have "finished" hair so that no matter how it is worn it looks dressed and styled.

Although some brides with short hair opt for having extensions done, something as simple as wearing jeweled hairsnaps, magnets or a high sparkle clip or barrette in a very sleek, finished style works just fine. Flowers are also an instant bridal dress-up look and can be downsized according to the length and texture of the hair. Pink flowers are the hottest colors for 2003. Or flowers in the hair can be matched to the bridal bouquet.

Pearls are timeless and small pearl hairpins sprinkled throughout the hair will dress up just about any style as will a delicate pearl headband. Seed pearls are very hot for 2003 but any type of pearls work well for just about any bridal hair attire.

When you think of dressy dos from the recent Oscars think Renee Zelleweger with her short, sleek, shiny chin length glossy blonde bob, Halle Berry with her very short but curly topped crop and Kim Cattrall with a messy unstructured bob. Both Renee and Halle alternate their short crops between curly and sleek. Renee had the top of her hair styled in big barrell curls for the SAG awards but when with a super straight, sleek, behind the ear with her fabulous red dress for the Oscars. Halle wears her hair from super curly to slightly mussed and spiked.

For more ideas suggest that your bride-to-be flip through several bridal magazines to get even further ideas on how to do her hair. When in doubt add hair accessories that enhance the style of the dress and the style of the wedding (formal, semi-formal, casual, etc.,).

Best wishes,
Karen Shelton

Hi Karen,

I like your suggestions for Styne's bride to be. I would like to add that wearing the hair brushed completely off the face and behind the ears ala Rene Zellewege with a fabulous pair of earrings that compliments the wedding dress is always a great way to deal with short hair for any dressy event. :-)
