I believe the diameter of fine hair is smaller than "normal" hair. Fine hair is generally very silky and shiny but often thin and flat. It won't hold any kind of set and generally looks better if it isn't too layered. It also usually looks bad if it gets too long unless it happens to also be thick. Most products tend to weigh it down and make it look limp and lanky.
