hey girlie....

so i posted in your latest shrinkie post...cuz you do the install yourself w/ mirrors.

how do you set these up so you can actually SEE DETAIL???

i'm okay with the mirror image thing and reversing what i see...but my mirror is on the bathroom door, and the bathroom mirror is back about foot....so now i can't see the shrinkie, i can't see the piece of hair i'm pulling through, etc etc.

tips????
has someone been swimming in the shallow end of the gene pool again?

I use my full bathroom mirror and my hubby's mic stand with a clamp on the top to hold a hand mirror

That's a great idea, Shadow. I don't think I've ever heard that one before, but I would imagine it makes a perfect mirror-stand. :)

For me, personally, I'm able to prop my butt on the counter and get
right up to the mirror. I also have a medicine cabinet mirror right on
the side of me and when I turn it, I get a large close up of the detail
from the angle and at the sides. For the back, I simply just use a
handheld.

*Tip - clean mirrors so they're spotless and it helps so much. Also
bright light is important.

The most important part of doing strand application is sectioning.

I start at the bottom, lift everything up over my head and clip it out
of the way, leaving only a section I'll be working with. Get a rattail
comb with the pointed end and draw a horizontal, straight line where
your first row will go. Any more hairs get sectioned away at the top
level, put them back up with the rest of the hair that you clipped on
top of your head. Check with your handheld mirror and make sure
it's even.

Use the pointed end of the comb again and start at the side in that
bottom row and section out your strand. Hold it in your fingers. I give
it a pull with one hand and then feel with the other and it's easy to
determine if there's any hairs coming coming too far off from the
sides. If there are, I section those out and I'm left with the strand in
my thumb and forefinger. That's when I put the shrinkie on the hook
and pull it through the strand.

I'll them tap the shrinkie lightly with the wand to get it down a little
more snug (usually doing this only at the top of the shrinkie closest
to my head) and then I push it up the strand all the way. I get the
hair extension, put the tip through and then hold it with one hand.
Getting the handheld mirror, I look at the placement, push it up the
rest of the way and then I let go. It stays put because of the way I
shrunk it down a bit. I hold the mirror with one hand and then zap it
down with the wand with the other.

It's so hard to explain but it's so incredibly easy now. And of course
the sides and the front are nothing short of a breeze and I never
have to pick up the mirror because of the angle of the turned
medicine cab. mirror.

Just make sure you always have hair out of the way that you're not
working with. That's the key. Your head should be full of clips,
barrettes and anything you have to section, section, section and keep
your field of vision clear and open.

It gets easier with practice!

I don't know if you have a video camera, but I saw this on a posting on this site.  I am gonna do this with shrinkies.

Point a video camera at the back of your head, plug it into the TV and sit in front of the TV watching a live cast of the back of your head.

You can get video cameras now for $99.00, that way you can see what you doing on the back of your head and it wont be reversed like it is in a mirror.  You can even shine lights on yourself to make sure you can really see what your doing.

I'll let you know how it goes for me, I will be doing mine Sat or Sunday.

That's the difference between me and the rest of the world! Hapiness isn't good enough for me! I demand euphoria!
