Well I posted this in the wedding hair but no one has replied so here goes

A co-worker of mine wants me to do her hair for her wedding (b/c I always do my own updos, usually with pincurls) and wanted a bun - so I found some pictures and the one she picked I'm not quite sure how to do.

So if anyone has any ideas or good tutorials or links I could look at.... I need help on how to get this look

It kinda looks like its one that has a form on the inside since the hair  doesn't look perfectly round from top to bottom of the bun.

I'll wait and see if someone knows more than me beofre I push my idea too hard.  But I think I know *a* way to do that if not *the* way.

How long is your friends hair?

Yeah, it looks to me like that thing is a hairpiece that is mounted independently on top of a ponytail or tiny bun of her own.

Just looking for a few good hair slaves - is that too much to ask?

It's long probably 3/4 down her back if not all of her back (almost to rear) but not the thickest

I think I know what your talking about witht the form, any ideas on where to get one?

personally I would make one.  Or you could try to use a 'bun magic'  I get those for like 3 bucks in walmart.  But i think it would be too long and not quite tall enough for that exact look.

I'd probably try some card board or cardstocka nd maybe cover it in saran wrap so it wouldn't tangle on her hair...

even if you make a piece with extra hair I think I'd do it that way

thats kind of a foam mould probably

in which case you'll need to play around

firstly finding a mould in the right shape

i'd try tying the hair into a low ponytail and clipping the foam over it and spreading the heair over and securing under the foamm.

foam  ooh that's a good thought.

I had thought mof making the ponytaill and then since its that much hair rolling it up from the ends.

and remember to leave a coupl of pieces from the front out to pin into place post piece but preflower...

I see a lot of hairpins and experimenting in your future.

Its a formal chignon style.  Here is a similar style:

http://beauty.about.com/od/hairstylephotogalleries/ss/chigno n_3.htm

A chignon is sort of a variation on the classic bun.  A foam donut thingie or cut-off sock can fill it out.

There is a how-to slide show at this site:
