QuoteReplyTopic: filing and damage to natural nails Posted: February 19 2006 at 10:22pm
i go to a vietnemese shop locally, and i pay $15.00 for an acrylic fill. overall i am happy with the service i recieve. the only thing that troubles me is that when she fills my nails she uses this machine that looks like a drill with filing attachments. when she does this, it leaves really deep ridges in my nails, and i am concerned that this might be damaging to them. is this supposed to happen? or should i run far far away?

You are right to be wary! Yes, your nails are being damaged. To be blunt - you get what you pay for! If you are only paying $15, there are reasons - nail damage, usually not clean and most likely using illegal products. I would say run, and find a good tech who will leave your nails healthy! (PS, Ive had nails for 13 years and the ONLY time I had damage is when I went to one of "those" shops. Since then I became a licensed nail tech and realized that pain and damage are NOT necessary!)
