Hi ladies (and gents!)

I work for a TV company called Celador who make things like 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire' and 'You Are What You Eat'. The BBC have asked us to make a new factual entertainment series about the true cost of consumerism for an individual and I'm looking for people to be involved.

It's a fantastic idea - I'm looking for people who love a particular luxury to an excess eg gold, diamonds, fur, trainers, hair extensions etc and have not only have a real passion for it, but also have large amount or collection of it. This person will get to go on an incredible journey to see for themselves how for instance, the gold jewellery they wear, is manufactured - be that in the UK or even overseas at the goldmines themselves. We want this person to experience how the product they adore gets from source to the shops to make up their own minds on the moral and ethical issues that surround its creation. We've all heard of sweatshops and child labour, but how many people can say they honestly know both sides of the story? We want the individual to see the pros and cons with their own eyes so that they are more informed about their passion by the end of the experience.

Do you know the King or Queen of Bling?

Can’t live without your real hair extensions?

Are diamonds your best friend?

I'd love to hear from confident people who are really proud of what they love. Maybe this 'luxury' is their only vice. Do you think you work hard for the money to buy it so why not? If you're interested in being considered for the programme and are up for a challenge, please get in touch.

kgodbolt@celador.co.uk / 020 7153 6139.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this!

Kimberly

No thanks! I think I'll let some other addict bear the shame of being exposed on international television to those impoverished third-world country women cutting/selling their hair so we can have our extensions.
Here's to the end of my BAD HAIR LIFE!

Why would you post something like that here?
Just because we have hair extensions doesn't mean we're greedy pigs.
And for some of us, this isn't a luxury (I'm sure people who wear toupees don't see their hair as a luxury), some people are recovering from Chemotherapy.
Your entire post is offensive.

OK ya-
We are all wicked addicted to hair extensions. That's why we all gab about them on here.
I could feel guilty about ANYTHING if I stopped an took the time to think about it. I am addicted to drinking water, too- and I could feel very guilty about that becuase there are plenty of people in the world who do not have enough water to drink throughout the course of a day.
I enjoy my pleasures guilt-free. Not out of ignorance, as it appears you are suggesting. But becuase we all need to have something in life that we enjoy- that makes us happy. Something that is not a necessity. I spend enough of each day trying to figure out how to survive, raise my children, agonizing over the ridiculousness of this screwball government, etc.
Now may I be left in peace to enjoy sharing my non-guilty pleasure of hair extensions with other hair extensions addicts.

Hair extensions, as well as hair itself, I believe are political just as all beauty "products" are; some of us hair junkies are completely anti-human-hair, others just buy it in search of great hair and go with the flow. I personally have very little information about the human aspect of the hair trade. Honestly, is it good? Bad? Horrible? Indifferent? What is the whole picture? I don't know, but I'm certain that like *everything* there are good and bad aspects to the supply side of the picture.

We "consume" the hair:  we use it, we wear it, we throw it away (after varying periods of time depending on the hair itself and the installation method used). I for one would love to understand more about the source of the hair; for example, is there an equivalent of "Blood Hair" (I'm thinking of the whole blood diamonds thing); i.e. hair that is unwillingly given, vs. willingly given (i.e. the "Indian Temple Hair", which, ironically is the symbolic equivalent of giving up your vanity)?

Sara Hochuli, the proprietor of PlastikHaar, is very against human hair use and has created an entire business on "fake" hair to be used for extensions. She views the whole hair thing as creative and artistic expression (as do I, in addition to personal appearance enhancement). However, for whatever reasons, the "fake" hair market just hasn't taken off because of problems with the hair itself (it's difficult), and I find it odd that "technology" hasn't addressed this. I do wonder at times if this is because there's so much money in the human hair trade? And thus no great demand for synthetic hair because you can't get the look and feel of human hair? I'm not sure.

Anyway just my two cents. I've sent you an email as well.

I have to add my 2 cents.  We all have hair extensions, does this make us addicts.  Well I really can't say we're addicts. It may seem like it at first but think about makeup.  Think about when you first started wearing it, finding out what works, what doesn't, what brand you like.  Does the fact I wear makeup make me an addict to make up.  I don't think it's any different from shopping for shampoo or conditioner that works for you.

Now I can agree that if we ordered say 100 different types of hair and had to do a new install every other day that might be a problem.  Or if we had to have enough hair to sleep in a bed of hair so we could constantly touch it.  Now that would be a bit excessive.  Yes, I do get giddy when my hair comes in and I have to pull it out of the package and touch it.  But how is that different from buying a new shirt you adore.

I really don't think hair extensions are something to be called excessive.  Sorry if I offend anyone with the following but how exactly is one supposed to research and find out exactly where the hair came from.  & to be honest if we're supposed to do that to be ethical shouldn't we do that with everything, where did your coffee beans come from, the chocolate, the rice, clothing, shoes, purses, lets just be honest it would be silly.

How do you choose what is supposed to be researched to be ethical, one could go batty from that.  I personally wear Plastikhaar but it's my own choice, I'm not going to drive myself nuts that I have to research every product that I buy in my house for how ethical it is.

What about a show focusing on the Husbands of "Women Like US". Life around our blessed men, who  have to deal (and enjoy) our constant changes of their sexy women, and how us looking so Hot affects their lives. That would be avery positive look at Hair Extension "Adiction"..LOL

I know my man gets affected by this,  he doesn't have a clue what will be waiting for him when he come home from work. Will it be an Amazonian Long Curly Haired Tigress? A Sexy Hot Beach Babe? A Temptress Diva?
I don't know is just me. But all I get from my adventures with hair is great sex!
I would pay to have a picture of my husband face (and his friends) everytime I come out with my hair done. Is worth all the money invested in.

But again is me, hair is my drug. Thank God for that!

I forgot to mention all the benefits that come with the hair:

1.Men druwling when they see youStar
2. VIP entrance to any Club.Wink
3. Free Bottles of Wine in a restaurant LOL
4. Good SexClap
5. Men druwlng when they see you
6. Jealous looks from other womenDeadBig%20smile
7. The best treatment anywhere you go.
8. Men druwling when they see you
9. Your man can't wait to get home so he can be with his sexy wife :)
10. Looking younger and younger.
11. A FORUM just for themLOL
12. Teenagers hitting on youTongue
13. So much more!!

Instead of focusing so much on the bad side of everything, TV should show the glamorous life of the hair extensions Divas.

"Real World - Hair Divas"   hahahahaha.....MTV would have nothing on us!!   Thumbs%20Up

Let's see, our big drama will be when someone's protac track slips out as we're getting ready to go clubbing, or when the new hair we've had express delivered turns out to be crap and we have a big event to install it for.  This could be a blast.  Maybe we should write the pilot & market it to FOX.

Did guiltypleasures not THINK when she wrote this post?
Does she truly believe we would be STUPID, just because we wear extensions? Or that we would spontaneously break out in some tribal hairdance singing a hairextension mantra?
Or that we would call her immediately and beg her to make fools of us, in fact drooling at the thought of how she would transcend all of us by showing the world what greedy, selfish bitsches we are. Oh and of course how she gets to teach us a lesson and how pure she is... .

GuiltyPleasures, you're probably not reading this post because you're too embarassed by the previous ones already. If you are, read this very carefully:
EVEN IF YOU DO FIND SOME POOR SOUL THAT WILL FALL INTO YOUR TRAP, THINK OF THE POSSIBLE CONSEQUENCES...AFTER YOU RIDICULE THEM AND JUDGE THEM AND MAKE A LOT OF PEOPLE HATE THEM (IT WILL BE YOUR JOB TO MANIPULATE BOTH THE "VICTIM" AND THE AUDIENCE INTO DOING ALL THAT) WILL YOU BE ABLE TO SLEEP AT NIGHT IF SOMETHING WOULD GO TERRIBLY WRONG WITH YOUR VICTIMS?
Maybe you mean well...we all know about the sufferings in the world, but don't go using people to put your point across...THAT is a selfish act: all you want is to make tons of money by hurting others. How zen!
Of course there is pain on every level.
Don't make it worse than it already is.

Bye, mother Theresa.

And now, on a happier note....................
I learn to love and try to understand everyone I meet. I see the rainbow hiding in their eyes.

Actually, I think it is an interesting idea for a television show, even if I myself wouldn't want to be the spokesperson for human hair extensions. I did have an idea for an episode about another luxury item that I would be willing to personally support, and emailed Kimberly about it. She responded promptly with a very nice, polite response today saying that unfortunately they're only looking for people from the U.K. to be on the show.

I think some of y'all are being a little harsh about her request. I'm sure there are decent, articulate people who wear hair extensions and are willing to have the experience the show is offering. I know that I for one would watch such an episode to learn more about the human hair trade, even though it is unlikely that anything I'd see would stop me from wearing my wefts.
Here's to the end of my BAD HAIR LIFE!
