Novelist Needs Help with AA hair

Hi! I'm hoping someone on here can help me out with understanding African American hair. I'm a novelist (Caucasian) who writes girlfriend fiction.

My latest series involves four women - two Caucasian, one Chinese, and one African American. The current novel's main character is the AA lady, Kendra. I've spent some time cruising around the forum here and have realized just how little I know about how Kendra would take care of her hair. :) So, is there someone who could answer a few questions about how this character would care for her hair, different styles she could try, etc?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
