I have a double crown...

I cut my hair nice and short, but I have pretty bad hair genes. I have a double crown, widow's peak, and receding hair line. It doesn't look as bad as it sounds, but usually once it gets long it just turns into a big, poofy afro.

I was wondering if someone could help me find a good mousse, or some hair product that will help me flatten my hair. It looks best when it's a little longer than the initial cut, but then it just sticks straight up and doesn't flatten. Basically, my hair looks great when it's grown out a little and I wake up with bed hair, because it's flat and makes it look like I have a fuller head of hair.

So, please someone point me in the right direction.
