Linda Riss who eventually became Linda Pugach was deliberately blinded in 1959 when her married lover Burton Pugach, a disbarred lawyer, allegedly paid a hit man to throw lye in her face.

The lye blinded Linda for life. That's not the shocking part of this heinous tabloid story.

Riss eventually married her lover in 1974 when he got out of prison for hiring the hit man who blinded her with lye.

Her husband, Burton Pugach, served 14 years in jail for the crime against her. After he divorced his wife, he married Riss, proposing to her on live television.

Pugach has always maintained his innocence in the charges that he hired the hit man who threw the lye which blinded Linda Riss.

This infamous story was made into the 2007 documentary Crazy Love.

Many people could not understand why Linda Riss married the man who caused her so much emotional and mental pain, not to mention causing her blindness.

This unusual story is back in the media because the 75 year old Linda Riss Pugach who hid her lye scarred face with dark glasses recently died from heart failure. She entered the hospital on December 26th and eventually died.

Interestingly enough, more than twenty years after his release from prison, Burton Pugach was accused in another case which had a lot of similarities to the original case against him involving the lye.

He was acquitted of the charges in that similar case in 1997.

He had been accused of threatening and harassing another lover after she tried to end their five-year affair. That woman testified that he threatened to make it "1959 all over again."

Pugach denied all charges claiming it was completely blown out of proportion. His wife Linda testified at the trial and called him an adulterer, but not a criminal.

Linda Pugach said after heart surgery in 1990 she could not longer have sex with her husband which probably explained his adultery.

According to Linda's surviving husband the story was a fairy tale romance rather than a story about a heinous crime.

Do you agree? Was it a love story or a heinous crime where the victim eventually married the man who caused her disfigurement? What are your thoughts?
