Karen,
I noticed you mentioned that Natural Pogesterone Cream helped with your hair loss. I`ve experienced significant shedding in the last month (though it has ebbed right now) and I want to know how you used the cream (on your scalp?) and what you recommend along those lines. Also, any risks in using the cream or side effects? Any and all help or additional info is most appreciated! Thanks, Sondra

I`m not Karen, but I think I can answer your question. Progestrone cream was not meant to be rubbed into your scalp. I believe if you have a hormone imbalance the cream is a natural way to introduce progestrone into your system. It is applied to soft fleshy areas of the body, ie..inner thighs, stomach, upper arms and should be rotated daily. I`ve been using it again, I never know how much to use, without result thus far.

I recently lost alot of hair in a very short period. My once thick, healthy hair is now thinned and weak. I went to my doctor who did some blood work to rule out anemia, thyroid problems & diabetes. Everything came back fine except that my hormones where out of whack & i was into menopause (I`m 47). Turns out my progesterone level fell so low as to cause the hairloss. I now use Natural Progesterone cream. It is called `Pro Gest`. I rub about 1/4 teaspoon of the cream on my skin every night before bed. It is to be rubbed into the area where your skin is thinnest ie. breast, inner thigh, inner arm, stomach and rub it on a different area each time you use it. I use it for 21 nights then stop for 7 then resume again for 21 and continue in this pattern. It has been proven that when hormons are imbalanced hair loss will result and the use of natural progesterone will often restore your hair. However it can take up to 3 months to begin to see results. I will add that as soon as I began on the progesterone cream my hair stopped falling. Now I sweart I lose at the most 10 hairs a day.

I wondered if you discontinue the npc will the hair fall at an accelerated rate. What side effects can it cause? Just thought if it had side effects that I didn`t want and Iwanted to discontinue usage, would I have increased fall out. I presume you must take this for life. My hair has thinned a lot also.

I am currnetly using a very good Natural Progesterone cream.I used one before that didn`t give me very good results, however my hair loss did not increase when I stopped using it. The one I am using now is super strength and I am seeing better results, I have recommended it to two of my co workers who like it too. It`s not necessary to get a prescriptiin for it. I buy it from the healthyheal website it is listed under the individual products and it comes als in their menopause system.

Hi,

I used LifeFlo - ProgestaCare Women`s Formula for over 3 years and had great results for both my temporary hair loss problems and my hormonal issues.

To give you the short version...when I turned 46 I started having hormonal and thyroid problems. For the first year my MD could not find the thyroid problems and my hair was getting really dry, brittle and falling out. My hairstylist was freaking out because she knew that I was really careful about taking care of my hair. She kept asking me if it was stress (I work 7 days a week - 18-20 hours a day running two companies) but I was not doing anything different than normal that I had done for the past 10 years. In fact, I was feeling pretty relaxed for me. :-)

At any rate, I go to an acupunturist who determined through blood tests that I was in perimenopause. He also decided that I had a underactive thryoid but the blood tests did not confirm it.

He recommend that I start some sort of hormone therapy to help with my skin (breaking out badly), hair loss, insensitivity to cold and other hormonal issues too many to mention and my overall health.

I went to a naturopathic MD and she prescribed traditional homones. OH MY GOD. The problems were intolerable. I had mood swings, could not sleep, even the time that I wanted to and my hair got worse in terms of dryness and brittleness.

I was freaking out because I did not want to lose my hair. Plus I felt awful all the time w/ hot and cold and all sorts of other physical crap.

I asked my acupunturist to help me find a better way. He recommended that I try the ProgestaCare instead of the traditional hormones. I made a beeline to the health food store and followed the program of appling the cream 20 days on/8 days off in harmony with my natural cycle and alternated between application to my stomach and my arms.

WOW. Within 2 weeks I was my old self. It took 2 months of the treament but my hair returned to normal w/ not other loss. I was lucky to have very thick hair to start, so my loss was not nearly as bad as it could have been. I did have to have the split ends trimmed from the brittle period.

Also, I started taking hair vitamins, MSM and essential fatty acids.

After 1 year on the Dr. Lee natural hormone cream I went to a thyroid specialist and he immediately found that I had a underactive thryoid. He put me on medication and again...another WOW. I felt so great.

That all happened 4 years ago and I have sailed through all hormone challenges with my hair full and lush and still growing longer each year. Almost no grey either and my hair is soft and not brittle.

Approximately 1 year ago I stopped using the ProgestaCare and my thyroid meds were reduced to a low level. No problems. Also, no skin problems, mood swings or any other left over problems.

The funny thing is that last year my baby sister turned 45 and started to go through the hell I went through 4 years ago. I immediately sent her the ProgestaCare. In fact, I started carrying it in the HairBoutique.com store for all my 45+ friends to buy conveniently. :-) My sister had her thyroid checked and she had the identical condition as me. Which meant that it is hereditary.

My sister only had about 3 bad months and now she is doing really great w/ no original hormone symptoms. Her hair, by the way, was acting just like mine did when it started falling out. Mary (my sister) has shoulder length hair but she was as freaked about it falling out as I was.

While you could probably apply the ProgestaCare to your scalp it probably would not work well since it is designed to work when applied to the inside of the arms, belly and chest area. Since it is all natural it is non-toxic.

I have been doing a lot of research on hormonal related hair loss and I believe that for some people, the Natural Progesteron cream combined with a well functioning thyroid will help a lot. Of course you have to have a doctor that is willing to do the finely calibrated blood test to catch the thryoid problems.

I also had great luck with the MSM, hair vitamins and the EFA. I played around with various combinations (no hair vitamins but EFA and hair vitamins no EFA) and found the perfect formula for me.

I hope this helps. I am only too happy to share this experience I lived through w/ my hair, hormones and body. It was a true nightmare. Not only was I terrified that I was going to lose all my hair but I could not function as a normal person because my body was going nuts.

Please let me know if you have other questions.

Best wishes,
Karen Shelton

Karen,

Thank you for sharing this information. My 40 years old wife is currently going through almost identically what you describe that you went through. About 3 months ago they put her on an estrogen/progesterone cream program and I lost my wife to some different person who was moody and irritable and not herself. Right after she started the hormones her face broke out, she instantly gained about 10 pounds (which made her more unhappy) and her hair started falling out in chunks. It is so brittle that when she brushed it the hair would break off in the middle. I printed off your post above and gave it to her. She has agreed to try and find a new doctor that can work with her on her hormones. I also went to our local Whole Foods and bought the cream you mentioned. I am hoping that I can get her to start using it. I know that she will try if she thinks it can help w/ her hair loss issues.

I will keep you posted. Thank you so much for sharing so much of your own personal health issues and hair issues. You help so many people by your courage to talk about private and personal topics.

Sincere thanks,
Thomas
