How long after a shampoo and conditioner do you have to wait, to apply a relaxer to your hair? And if you do it to soon, will it damage your hair?

Most sources say to wait at least 3 days after shampooing/conditioning. If you do it too early, your hair might not have enough natural oils--and therefore moisture.. and the treatment will badly dry out your hair.
