I just found this site and I hope someone can help me.I am in my 60's.I just had my hair highlighted and my stylist says no to a perm.She says you cannot perm over color treated hair.My hair is very straight and very thin and I wear it in a bob style,but it needs body.I might add my hair will not hold hair spray or gel etc.I have strange hair.Please help.Thanks Mollie

I would suggest going to the Hair Color board (go to the Forum Jump menu at the bottom of this page and scroll down until you see Hair Color) and ask them if you can perm over highlights.  There are color professionals there who will know for sure if this is true.  It is possible she may be saying no because of the condition of your hair.  If the hair was badly damaged by the highlights, there is a risk a perm could make it break off...when you ask this question on the other board, tell them about the condition of your hair so they get a better idea.  Good luck, and welcome!
