I was searching high and low for olive oil in my house, as it is in so many recipes on this site, but the only one I could find was sunflower oil. What can this do for your hair? Is it good/bad?

Hello Ody

This took a bit of research on my part since I am somewhat ignorant about sunflower oil. Here is what one of my books says about it:

Sunflower Oil

An emollient oil extracted from sunflower seeds. Rich in essential fatty acids, it is a good base for massage oils, creams, lotions and natural soap. Has a short shelf life, so use it when you purchase it. Good for all skin types.

I found a number of recipies using sunflower oil for your skin but only one hair recipe and it is for a dry scalp:

Puncture one 400 I.U. vitamin E capsule and squeeze contents into a small cup. Add 3 tablespoons of avocado or sunflower oil. Mix well and comb through hair. Wearing rubber gloves, soak an old towel in hot water. Wring it out and then wrap it, still very warm, around your head. Leave the towel on until it cools. Repeat wrap and steam 7-10 times. With diluted shampoo, shampoo hair 3-4 times to get rid of all the oil.

This makes it sound like it will not harm your hair but might be a bit difficult to get out.

I wish I could give you more information about it. If I find anything else, I will let you know.
