QuoteReplyTopic: Dry Curly Hair!!! Posted: July 09 2000 at 1:04pm
I have a little longer than shoulder length curly(Not much curl right now)hair. I straighten it usually because even with how bad it looks in humidity, it still looks better than when it's curly. I have a black father and a white mother so I have very dry bushy hair. My parents don't want me to blow dry it straight because they said it will cause it to fall out someday. Is this true? I'm not going to put a relaxer in it. Can anyone suggest something to help with curl definition? All I need is to have something to bring them out so they're not dry looking. Gel and mousse just make them hard in some places and frizzy and dry in other places . Can anyone help? I will take advice on either straightening or helping the curls:)
Hello! Blow drying once in a while won't do TOO much damage to your hair, esp. if you use a heat activated shampoo/cond./styling products (Thermasilk). BUT, regular blow drying, esp. on a hot setting, can make your hair brittle; plus when your aim is to straighten your hair with the hair dryer, you're pulling the hair straight as you put the heat at it. Not good. For curl definition, try using the Back to Basics Get Curly line of products; they're supposed to enhance and define curls. Also, Frizz-Ease products are excellent, all of them. To get nice curls in humid weather, try Ouidad's Climate Control. And finally, for soft hair, use a hot oil treatment; such as working warm olive oil through your hair and leaving it on for anything from 15 min. to overnight. Best wishes, Catriona
