Amybabe, I am from Scotland,17 years old and have only recently found this site. I am a hairlover and read your posts with great interest. I have long, dark hair one lenght hair to about my waist and have never thought of cutting it until I read your post. I showed it to my friend tonight. Her hair is also one length but about six inches shorter than mine. When I suggested that we do the same she told me that she had been thinking of cropping her hair for some time. I was shocked as she looks great but as we sit in my room we are thinking of doing as you and your friend did and cut each others hair first. I am both scared and excited and e thought that we would ask you for some help before we make up our mind and book an appointment at the hairdressers. I am not sure if I can go through with it but my friend wants to do it as soon as we can. I would love it if you could tell us some more details regarding your fantastic and daring haircut.
Where did you and your friend cut each others hair? What kind of scissors did you use? Did you put your hair into a ponytail before it was cut and what did you do with it? How did you feel as your friend cut off your long locks? How do you feel now and what do your friends say? How did you feel the next day when you went to the hairdressers and they started to cut more off? Do you regret it?
If we do it we are not going to tell anyone, not even our boyfriends and are going to do it next weekend.
Um, ok, we used ponytails in our hair and cut right above it. I did hers first and it felt really scary and wierd. When it was done I looked in the mirror and at her and we looked like so different. It was wierd, like we all the sudden both had short hair. Its really wierd now describing my self as having short brown hair, when I was used to saying I had really long hair. We used just regular scissors, we really weren`t that worried about how it looked cause we were getting it cut again anyway. At the salon it was wierd cause i was getting my hair cut, but I wasn`t afraid cause the nervous part was already over. We kept the hair. i don`t regret it, I mean its a lot different, people like it but it is wierd looking more like everyone else and it doesn`t set me apart anymore. Like people who just meet you don`t know you had really long hair and think nothing of it. People who already knew me were shocked but they liked it I think. its wierd, like now other people have longer hair than me, and also I have to choose what to do, like weather to grow it more, cut it again, or whatever. But i say go head and do it you will like it and it is a cool change. i don`t know I might grow it back for a little, but I think when it gets long again I`m gonna do it again. I liked it it was like exciting and cool. But anyway if you have any questions reply back, and if you take pictures, send them to me.
Amybabe, Thanks for the reply. You have been a great help and i enjoyed reading of your exoerience. We have made appointments at a hair salon that our friend Jackie uses, for Saturday. She got her hair cut from mid back to a layered bob about 18 months ago and it looked great, although she has grown it about 4 inches past her shoulders again. She is thinking of joining us at the salon to go back to her bob. I am still unsure if I will go too short. I am really excited by the thought but I may not have the nerve at first. I may have to go shorter step by step, As I said I had never wanted to cut my hair until I read how you did it. To be honest I need to get it cut to at least mid back, about 6 inches, as my hair is a bit out of condition at the ends. My friend Louise insists that she is going very short no matter what I do. She is talking about going for a pixie but I have said that she is all talk and will go to shoulder length at the most. We are going to go through the Gallery and will let you all know which ones we like and try to choose a model there who has our hair colour and face shape. Anyone else got any stories of how they felt or how they cropped their hair? Katie U - why don`t you join us and chop it off at the same time and same length so we can compare our feelings. Anyone else fancy it? Amybabe you may have started something great here - friends going for the chop together world wide.

Wannacut, definately go short. how long is your hair now? I mean I don`t know but it is really exciting to have a lot of hair cut off at once, especially by your friend and if she is doin it too. I have to imagine its a lot better than going in steps. i mean its just that its half the fun, and plus it is a shocking change, and if your gonna go short in steps, you might as well do it. Also, once she is done cutting, you feel great. Anyway, reply then let me know. Are you gonna cut each other`s hair like we did too?
Amybabe, I hear what you are saying about going short in one move. I am coming round to that way of thinking but i might still need some persuasion. If I cut 8 inches off it will still look different and I can still go shorter if I wish but the thought of going REALLY SHORT is exciting me! I mean really short! As you can tell I am unsure of what to do. One minute I am up for a real crop and the next i talk myself out of it. Still I have a few days yet.
We are going to cut each others hair first before going to the salon at the same time. I think the fact that a sfriends we are going to do it to each other adds to the excitement. Jackie is now involved as well. Louise, who is right up for it, has suggested that we all put our hair in a ponytail. Then I will pull hers tight while at the same time she holds Jackie`s and Jackie pulls mine. Then we all cut each ithers hair at the same time! Louise suggests cutting so that no hair touches our shoulders! Then I will have no going back. I say that I have more to lose as I will be cutting almost 20 inches off at once while Louise, who doesn`t care, will lose about 12 inches and Jackie, who has been shorter before only6 inches. My hair is down to my waist, a nice dark brown and cut bluntly at the bottom. It is one length and I usuallywear it in a centre parting although I often dress it up with clips, hairbands etc. Louise has naturally fair hair, also one length, but to mid back. We often dress our hair the same and both of us have never had shot hair, even to below the shoulders. Jackie has highlighted blond hair, although naturally fair. She has been short and abut 18months ago cut her hair into an above shoulder layered bob, similar to Jennifer Anistons "Rachel" cut. It is still similar but she has grown it about 5-6 inches and the layers have almost gone. Anyway whatever I choose my hair will be different at the weekend and I need a change. Louise, who I have to tell you is a babe, and I are double dating with our boyfriends on Saturday night, straight from the hairdressers so They are in for a shock! Amybabe thanks for your thoughts and as this is all I can think of at the moment I will keep posting as my emotions change. Your hair sounds great. What is it like now? i think the shoulder idea is a good one, then you won`t have the opportunity to turn back. Are you gonna have any pictures to send cause i would like to see. If you don`t wanna go for a really short cut, anything above the shoulders is a big enough change, although a pixie would be really cool. My hair is above my shoulders, and layered with the longest layer just above my shoulders, its a lot shorter than it was at my thigh. Post back.
I think you are right Amybabe. I am sitting here at 1.25 am British time wondering what to do. I have decided to go short. I liked Jennifer Aniston`s chin length messy bob that she got earlier this year. I always liked Gwynneth Paltrow`s really short cut in the film Sliding doors. It was cut very short at the back but left some length on top and she tucked it behind her ears. We will take pictures although we do not have access to a video recorder. Anyone in the Glasgow area want to help out or even join in and chop their hair. I have quite thick hairso if anyone has any ideas perhaps they could tell me where to see the pics. I will soon be a short haired girl and i am excited/nervous. i just hope that I don`t pull out. Oh by the way Louise is still going for a very short pixie. She will look fantastic. Jackie is also talking of going pretty short. More details will follow as the day approaches.
Amybabe, We have been browsing the hair gallery on this site and come up with a few cuts that we like.
I am 5`9" tall and slim and if I do say so fairly good looking.My hair is like #4360, in fact I have a similar shaped face and figure to her. I like the following styles. #3826, #4662, #5451, #3785, #3830 ( i love this cut!) I also like the two models featured in the Bob Steele page. The girl with the short cut looks sensational. What do you think? Very short?
Louise has hair and face shape similar to model #4807. Louise is a real babe with a beautiful smile. All the guys chase her. She fancies #3821( my fave for her), #3928, #4290, #3794.
Jackie has hair like model #4751. She wants a chin length assymetric bob, cropped at the back. She also likes #5884, #3794, #5376 and #5015.
We all love a cut on Martin`s makeover page, Makeover #1. What a fantastic look but would it suit any of us.
We are meeting tonight to finalise our plans for the great chopping session tomorrow. Any suggestions from this site or other good sites. We are open to all ideas, including medium length. I am still not 100% certain I will cut it off. I don`t think I will be until my hair is in a pony with the scissors around it and I say OK
Cutting it all off only take minutes... if you want to grow it back, it will take years. Think about it twice before you cut your hair short. Why don`t you cut it below your shoulder?
Perhaps you are right in saying that it will take years to grow back but i am ready for a change, a radical change. We all are and we are sitting here hardly able to wait. I think there will be a lot of hair coming off tomorrow night.
