I'm a huge Kurt Cobain/ Kurdt Kobain fan. From what I remember of him, he didn't like washing his hair. That's probably one way he got his hair to look like that. You could try a light oiling with jojoba or coconut oil-- experiment somewhere between 2 and 10 drops... You'd have to find the right amount for your hair. The oil will mimic the "dirtying" process. Jojoba oil, especially, is very close to the oil your scalp produces.
Of course, the hair might feel a bit too oily for comfort if you purposely oil your hair.. but it's an alternative to natural smelly sebum if you don't want to dirty your hair the natural way : )
The site link isn't working on my computer... so I'm not sure myself about products. But if anybody has any other recommendations for GUEST, please post!! frankly I'm out of ideas : )
"Who's in control of your style? You... or your hair? With Fructis Style from Garnier, you're in charge. The unique formulae with Fruit Micro-Waxes let you tame your hair, whatever your hair type. HAIR SMOOTHING CONTROL. Fructis Style Smoothing Milk from Garnier is specifically designed to control excess body and unwanted frizz"
"Frizz-Ease® Wind-Down? relaxing creme. Step 4 style straight. Get it straighter, faster. Breakthrough formula instantly releases wound-tight curls. Lasts until next shampoo. Frizz-Ease System- prescribed for dry, frizz prone hair"
Oh man... The world of products is a huge other universe and I haven't explored much of it.
The "sleek" look, I hear, can be achieved with the Frizz Ease. I hear it's a great smoothing serum and a lot of people do use it. It does contain a huge amount of silicone ingredients so I wouldn't recommend it if your hair is fine, dry, or damaged. It probably won't help you out much in getting the messy sectioned effect of Kurt's... you'd probably have to go with coconut or jojoba oil, or go naturally dirty for a week. Consider it "camping".
Depends on whether you want "sleek" or the sectioned look... I doubt you could do both. Product experimentation is expensive, so you might want to go to a girl friend's house and try her products for free ;)
Hairboutique's Marketplace sells jojoba in 4 oz sizes. For bigger sizes like 8 or 16 oz, you'd have to search elsewhere. I buy jojoba in "bulk". Back then, I did a Yahoo search for "jojoba oil+natural health product" and clicked on one of the first listings I think. The Hairboutique Marketplace has some jojoba in Desert Essence brand or Aura Cacia brand. They are good quality jojoba oils and are trusted names in the jojoba business. Good place to start researching and looking.
Whether you want a brand name or a cheaper equivalent that works just as well... It's your choice, but do make sure it's real 100% pure jojoba oil. These are the important checkoffs:
(1) "Simmondsia chinensis" as the scientific name (2) "expeller pressed" or "expressed" (3) clouds or solidifies in the fridge (4) pressed using NO SOLVENTS. (5) Most importantly it should be a nice transparent golden color.
Some places tell you these things up front and some don't, so you can also email whoever and ask.
