Ive got waist length curly hair and after I shower and comb through it I find a sink full of hair!!!! how much is normal loss for a male 29 yrs old? Also does having long hair increase the risk of going bald. My hair has been waist length for 10 yrs now. Im now starting to notice it thinning though my girlfriend says im nuts and that it looks the same. I know by the way it dries alot faster.
Hi HB,You didn't say that this was a sudden increase in hair loss; if so, it could be stress or diet related. Look at your Dad, Uncles, etc. to determine whether or not you've started losing hair as a result of the good ol'genes you've inherited. Otherwise, you'll normally lose around 100 hairs a day, so I've heard. And with hair as long as yours (and I bet it's gorgeous!) that can seem like a lot more than it actually is. Think about it -- a pile of 100 short hairs versus a pile of 100 long hairs... which will be uglier?I wouldn't think that long hair increases any likelyhood of balding; although, I'm not an expert here.If you're combing your hair while it's wet, it might just be breaking off instead of coming out by the roots. I've been waiting until mine's dry before I comb it and I think that I'm not losing as much. Trimming the ends might make it look thicker. But I wouldn't go for the toupee just yet.see ya,June
HB: Just a few tips. Take several multivitamins per day. Eat well balanced meals, wash your hair at least every other day, condition it everytime you wash, brush it correctly (see other boards for advice), only comb your wet hair with a wide tortoise shell comb or equivalent, after shampoo ( I use Pantene or St. Ives, use a good condition (Nexxus), rinse well with warm then cold water- you won't believe how much better your hair is after the cold water! If this doesn't help, Rogaine is coming out with a 5% solution (Extra Strength which grows hair on 45% people) If you are really paranoid, Propecia by Merck will be out in a month but it can decrease the libido and in 29 year old, this may be disconcerting. By my age (49), you'd rather have hair..and lots of it!> Hi HB,> You didn't say that this was a sudden increase> in hair loss; if so, it could be stress or diet> related.
