Hello, my name is Brad Geary. For the past year and a half, I have been trying to grow out my hair. I started growing it out when I had decided that my shaved head days were over. So in december of 1996 I started growing it out. In October of 1997, my hair was at nose length when I lost a bet on a football game and had to shave it all off. So in december of 1997 I decided to once again to grow it out. Here is my problem. This time when I was growing it out, ny hair started to fro! I had the biggest fro some people had seen besides Samuel L. Jackson's, and I'm hispanic! In the last few weeks I have managed to control my hair, but I am still growin it, at an unbeleivably slow pace.So my question is how can I grow my hair quiker, without it frowing on me?

Hi Brad,Funny you should mention this experience with your hair. I was talking with a waiter 2 weeks ago in Dallas who was telling me almost the identical story about his hair and what happens when he tries to grow it out.First of all, there is no magic bullet to make hair grow faster. It is predetermined by your genetic makeup and most people are lucky to have hair that grows about 1/2 inch per month. Crystal Gayle happens to be very lucky and her hair probably grows about 2 inches per month. However, most average humans have the 1/2 inch growing cycle.Hair does grow faster in the summer months, so that is some good news.As far as your hair being really curly or "fro" as you said. The best thing to do is use a decurler like KMS Flat Out of the new Aveda Phoemoellient. It will tame the curls and give you a softer less tight look. The longer your hair grows, the heavier it will be and you will have a better chance of the weight holding your hair down and making it less curly. If you are willing to blowdry your hair, you can achieve almost a completely straight look. Mariah Carey has very curly hair and she is now wearing it straight as a result of a straightener like KMS Flat Out and a blow dryer on low, medium heat speed. Direct the air flow from the roots to the ends to keep the curls at a minimum.Good luck and have patience. It is worth the wait.Regards,Karen> Hello, my name is Brad Geary. That which doesn't kill you makes you stronger or drives you totally insane. :-)
