Do Hair Supplements help your hair and do they make it grow faster? If so, what type is the best and where can you find them? Any replys are welcome. I also have heard that Prenatal Vitamins are suppose to work, has anyone tried this and not be pregant while taking them? Thanks, Jenn H.
You hair need to be nourished from the inside as well as outside so following a good diet full of fruits, vegetables, complex carbohydrates (grains and beans) and protein would be a good start.I have found success with kelp (and/or seaweed), flax oil, fish oils (cod and halibut) and silica. Brewers Yeast is also full of B-vitamins and is great for hair.Prenatal Vitamins are normally just a muli-vitamin which is especially designed for the needs of a pregnant woman and baby. If you are needing extra nutrition, I would just pick up a really good multivitamin. Protein is also great for growing hair so you may wish to add a protein shake into your day. I drink one in the afternoon as a snack. I use one called UPF by Champions Choice (I think that their address is www.championschoice.com). This has a complete range of amino acids as well as things like bee pollen and ginseng.I use nutritional supplements because I run 10k and half-marathons and my training schedule along with my work schedule is quite demanding. You need to find what a balance is for you. Depending on your lifestyle either just a good balanced diet or a balanced diet along with supplements may be right for you. Listen to your body.Happy growing!

I've seen a couple of references to it on this list and others on the web, but can't seem to find it in the health food stores. What format is it usually in? Any brand names to recommend? Thanks! Deb

What format> is it usually in? Any brand names to recommend?Silica can be found in many forms. I take silica as a gel, but it can also be bought in capsule form. The herb "horsetail" also contains high amounts of silica. You can take horsetail in a capsule or tea. I am up in Canada and I buy my silica from a store called GNC which I think is an American transplant. I use their brand of silica gel and mix it into vitamin and protein shakes. I also add horsetail herb to ginger root and licorice and make a tea. Horsetail tastes awful so you need to mix it with something strong.I have been using silica for about eleven months. I was first taking 4 horsetail capsules a day and in the last four months have switched to the gel. The thing to remember about silica is that it won't work over night. It took about six weeks before I noticed anything (my nails were stronger and my skin firmer) and then after about eight weeks I really started to notice a difference (my new growth was actually coming through thicker and my hair had more volume). I also read that taking it before going to bed is the best time since that is when your body is regenerating. This is my own personal experience and I should mention that before taking silica, my hair was in pretty bad shape. Maybe that is why I noticed such an improvement.Happy growing!
