M really has a good idea. I have seen a cadet girl do this with netting. I had to look very close to see if she had a net or not. It looks clean. I french braid my hair myself. What I use to do was stand in front of a mirror and divide a tiny portion of my hair in three sections. When I would flip my hair over another strand I would take my strand in my mouth and repeat the steps. I could never hold three strands at the same time. Each time you pass the strand over the braided part you are taking a bit of loose hair along with it. With a bit of practice you will be fine. Today I can easily braid fast without looking in the mirror. YOu get to know what to do with your hair.

I have a really big problem too. Some women french braid. They have thin hair. I have really really thick hair. Cutting my waist length hair to shoulder length helped. We are allowed to use hair nets and barrettes if they match our hair colour. I use a big barette at the back of my head. I make a pony tail and braid it. I have special big plastic pins (Goody, but I haven`t seen them in stores laterly) I make a bun and stick in some pins. Regular metal bobby pins don`t work for me. Hair screws are good as well. The most important thing is my hair net. I made my own. I hang it over the barrette and over the bun. Then stick in a few pins to make sure it doesn`t come out. I haven`t had a problem with my hair coming out yet. Although, it makes my peak cap very tight. Put your hair up and then get your hat size measured. Making the hair net. Get nylon netting at a bridal supply store in a colour that closely matches your hair. (a tawny brown colour works for me) I used a dinner plate to make a pattern (bread plate wasn`t big enough for my hair) I traced out the circular pattern onto "stitch and tear" paper but left a border of about one inch. I did a close wide zig-zig stitch in matching thread colour all around the circle through the paper and two layers of netting. I cut it out and threaded elastic thread through the stitching. Do the stitching double if you can see the elastic. - Canada
Does your husband know of any women who are already in that could help you? If you`re good with reading directions and doing them on yourself try this link: http://www.hairboutique.com/tips/tip255.htm

Thats exactly what I would`ve done (contact family) but b/c I`m already over seas (married to the USAF) I don`t have the hands on or visual contact I`d need to learn. I may try what you said about braiding it regular and making a bun though.
Hello and congrats on join the worlds best Air Force! (Okay, I have a biased opinion, I`m also in the Air Force). I`m not sure how much help I can offer you, but I can tell you that putting your hair up will be easier if you can talk to your Mom/sister/cousin/aunt/friend/hair dresser and have them help you. I have to go to field training (what ROTC cadets do for boot camp) in less than 8 monthes, and part of our pre-training is to learn how to deal with our hair. Right now mine just barely fits into a french braid (it`s sort of short), but I had another cadet show me the basics and i was able to imporvise from there. I fyou can even learn how to do a plain braid on your self, you can turn that into a bun and pin it down with only a few bobby pins (coated tips though, or you will rip out more hair than you keep up). I hope i`ve helped at least somewhat!

Hi, I`m planning on going the USAF and one of the boot camp regulations is that your hair has to be above the collar and a bun can`t extend past 1in off your head (if that makes any sense). My recruiter said that french braids seem to be the way to go for long hair. He suggested that I learn on someone else and then I could use the "you do me, I`ll do you" for basic. My problems are
1. I can`t french braid 2. I have no one to pratice on 3. I can`t find a site w/ directions on how to work on yourself.
