Does anyone have any experience of getting charged extra for a wash and blowdry (no cut) at any salon? In all the salons I've enquired about the cost, all of them say it depends on the length of my hair, the longer, the more expensive. Is this a normal practice? I suppose they have to use more shampoo so it costs more, but does this mean those with waist length or more need to wash at home to save costs?

Almost all salons charge extra for any service, IF they do it correctly. It takes longer to just detangle and blowdry your hair. It is simple math- a person with waist length hair has about 3-4 times the volume of hair that a "normal" head has. This means that dpending upon the chemical service, "a perm" for instance may require 2-3 times as much perms/color etc than a typical shorter head of hair. The time involved goes up as well. Longer "chair time" means less income for time invested to the typical stylist. Seek out a stylist that specializes in do long hair and you will pay more but the results will be worth it. My business is based mostly on long hair and I can pick and choose my clients because of specializing this way. William wrb@gorilla.net.

>It happens here. Now I can understand why a salon would charge more to perm long hair but what really gets under my skin is the charge for washing and blowing. I don't know how many times I complain about that. It does not take more shampoo.Actually over here I found it tends to be the cheaper places that chages more for cutting, shampooing and blowdrying long hair. The more expensive places tend to only charge more for perming long hair. That is what I noticed in my city. Now it might be diffirent in other cities.I do know how you feel because it really gets under my skin when I think of all the stupid reasons to charge us more.Hi Christine, to answer your question about extra> costs for long hair the answer is yes.
