horrible short 'do

A year ago I had the longest, thickest hair that anyone had ever seen. Then I went through a breakup and decided to change my entire life. That included my hair. I chopped it off above my ears, and locked myself in my room for days.It is now six months later, and I have not touched it again. My boyfriend and I made up, but I am stuck with this head. I have, like I said before, very thick hair. And it is now around chin length. I cannot do anything to it, Not long enough for a ponytail, not long enough for barettes. What can I do? I have thought about dying it, but then I would have short, thick, red hair. HELP!!!!!!
