My mom is having major trouble with her scalp and hair everything. She has a hard time getting around and she can't stand up long enough to wash her hair and we have no sinks that she can just sit at.Her scalp is really, really bad and oily and flaky. Her hair is oily too and full of residue. Is there anyway we can keep her hair and scalp healthier when she can't wash it?Thanks a lot:)

Go to a discount store or hardware and buy a large plastic (tupperware type) storage box or large trash can. Put the cape around the person backwards, where the longest part is behind her and drape it into the pan or trash can. By reclining her head as far back as possible (as in the case of a wheelchair or even hanging it over the edge of a bed if she is bedridden.) If the latter this will take three people, one to wash her hair, and two, one on either side to hold the ends of a large towel that has been placed under her neck to support her heads weight. You can start by wetting her hair with a spray bottle to shampoo and rinsing with water from large pails or jugs etc. You will have a little mess, but this can be minimized by laying down an old shower curtain or similar plastic sheet to catch the splashing. If this is a permanent disablement, a "mop sink" can be modified by cutting a 'neck' U-shape in the front with a jigsaw and padding the opening with towels before use. These are available at most discount builders centers for about $50. Use a strong shampoo to remove excess oil and if it is still present, swab the scalp area with rubbing alcohol and reshampoo. william
