I`m joining the military and even w/ my hair french braided or in a real tight bun they (recruiters) say its still too much. I figure I`ll just take the plunge and go something near shoulder length. That way I`ll be past the hard regulations before its really long again.
Anyways....are their any places that buy hair or take hair donations? I`d hate to see it go to waste. It goes a few inches past my navel in the front and is just below my panties in the back (it was cut on an angle way back when).
Im sorry to here you have to cut your hair, locks of love cuts hair for kids who have cancer and makes wiggs from the pony tails. O..let me know how you get on thanks

My first thought when I read your message I wondered if you ever thought of keeping the hair and maybe one day turning it into a hair extension thing or that you could enjoy for fun on special events. That way you might not feel like you totally lost your hair.
I would suggest EBay. If you haven`t cut it yet you can get a substantial amount of money (several hundred dollars). Just take a couple of current pictures of your hair and put it up for auction. Another place for selling hair is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/hairsale. Hope some cash makes the transition a bit easier.
DON"T CUT IT!! just wear a wig that won`t fall off they`ll never know the difference as for sleeping, just sneak the wig off or keep it on. :) hope this helps
Last Cut: Thurs. Dec 17 2003 Length: 12 1/2 inches Goal: Mid-Back (24 inches) Next Planned Trim: Dec 17 2006
I agree with Hunny Bunny. A wig is all you would need. They could fix you up with it where it wouldn`t fall off as well. Hope you haven`t cut it yet because you couls save your hair this way. Please let me know.....Gary

You can get it sewn in, so that all of your hair is concealed, and all you would see is the short tracks. They can`t possibly say anything about you wearing a weave.
I would SO not wear a wig and try to get out of cutting your hair. There is no way you`ll be able to survive without them finding out about your hair, then you could get in big trouble. If you are allowed to have hair that length, the recruiter just thinks for your sake it should be short (which I totally agree), that`s different. Find some people who have been through boot camp and ask if they think you could get through without being found out. I seriously doubt it, and I would hate for you to get caught. Just because you are a girl, they won`t go easy on you.
I`m going to second the last post. I have never been in the armed forces but in my inexpert opinion you could really get into hot water for breaking the rules. You`re probably going to be very active and a wig is one thing you really don`t want to have to worry about. There is another girl on this board, ladykera, who I believe had a similar problem in the airforce. Maybe she could help you. Good luck!

My husband is in the military, and I am around the military ALL the time. I see women in the military with LONG hair. They just put it up in a bun. With the Beret...the hair styles are a little harder but you can do it. I know that it has been a while since you have posted, so I hope that you haven`t done it (cutting that is) My mother-in-law was in the military too, with long hair. DON"T LET THE RECRUITERS FOOL YOU!!!!!!!
Cutting your hair would be a good idea...During basic military training I doubt you`ll have time to properly take care of your long hair. If you did keep your hair long..imagine how yucky and damaged it would be after you complete your training. It`d be better just to cut now start over when you`re finished.
Don`t donate your hair to Locks of Love! They recieve way too many ponytails as it is. Most of the donated hair is sold. I think keeping your hair, like others suggested, is a great idea.

That`s so not true. There is no such thing as too many ponytails. Do you realize how much it takes to make a wig & how many children out there could benefit from it. SOME is sold, if it is too short or unsuitable for a wig, but vast majority IS used to make wigs for kids. Speaking of which WIGS FOR KIDS is another option. They do the same thing as LOCKS OF LOVE, & for those who have problems with them I`d suggest WIGS FOR KIDS.
