What is the difference between hot oil treatments and deep conditioners? Are they the same? Which one is better for your hair? What does each one do? How often should you use each one? Can you use both in the same washing? I am asking this because I saw a product in the beauty supply store. I forget the name of it but it had an hot oil treatment and it had a deep conditioner. They were in a similar bottle with mainly the same ingrediants ( you know I sit there and read all the ingrediants before I buy it)I didnt know which one to buy so I asked the sales person and she said she didnt know. Does anyone know the answer to any of those questions? Any advice would be very helpful. Thanx in advance.

>Hot oil would be used primarily for improving the state of the cuticle. I use oil on dry hair and alot of brushing to smoothe cuticle down. Deep conditioners are usually for infusing moisture and or strenghening the hair just inside of the cuticle ie:when the hair is structurally damaged and brittle or mushy. I use oil when the hair is snarly, highly textured, damaged by wind, bed head. Got the picture? I don't find it necessary to have the oil heated. That would aid penetration, but I would guess the difference would be minute. Karen has suggested one of my favorite oils, Aveda beautifying formula. I never did understand the idea behind VO5 hot oil treatment as it is not exactly oil, and intended to be used on damp hair (oil and water don't mix).
