How do you know if your shampoo contain "fixatives" in it? I've read several messages saying that "fixatives" leave build-up on your hair. Please educate me!

Hi Jean,First of all, I am not a cosmotologist, but I have read Paula Begouns "Dont go Shopping for Haircare Products without Me." In her book, Ms.Begoun does her best to educate the public on hair care products. So, my info. comes from her book and from an experiencce that I had on my honeymoon.First of all, a fixative is what they put in "volumizing spray gels", and in shampoos (where they dont belong if you ask me). If you see any of the following words, you are seeing fixatives: acrylates, acrylates/copolymers, guar, or henna. There may be others out there, but I am only aware of these. Now, for my experience. On my Jamiacan honeymoon, I decided to bring along Nexxus Therrappe and Humectress. My first couple of days using these product was heaven. My hair felt good, and the smell accented my tropical paradise. However, by the third or fourth day, it was becoming incresingly harder to get a comb through my hair. No-- I did not go in the water and I wear hats due to a medication that made me sun sensitive-- so salt was not the reson. Only when I got home and bought Paula's book did I find out the Nexxus Therappe contains a fixative, and this is why my hair went nuts-- it was build up.According to Paula, fixatives are used to create a feeling of fullness, so maybe that's why straight hair people have such luck. My hair is loosley curled.I hope this has helped you out and hopefully others will post their knowledge on this matter too!Sherry-- > How do you know if your shampoo contain> "fixatives" in it?
