Just wanted to say that I realize how tedious it would be to painstakingly untangle and lay out each individual strand into a thick enough lock. That's why I've never done it!

Has anyone tried to save the hair that comes out on brushes and collects on drain filters to eventually gather enough to create locks that could then be used to test out dyes, perms, and other hair products? It would otherwise just be discarded right? You could use these to see how your hair could withstand chemical treatments and with multiple locks you could conduct your own experiments to find out if there really IS a difference between that shea butter or olive oil treatment, or this conditioner and that one. Testing out products at the same time I think would give you more accurate results, because you know how it is with humidity and various styling techniques from day to day that can affect how one product compares to another.I've never tried saving my hair. Too lazy. I'd only recommend it on hair long enough to gather into workable locks. I just always think it's such a waste everytime I scrape my hair off the shower drain, wad it up into a knot ball and chuck it into the trash. I don't know-just thought those of you who want to experiment with color and perms etc but are wary of the possible damage they might cause could try doing this before messing up the hair still attatched to their heads.
