I'm reprinting the question from happy blonde, as I would like to know the answer to this myself.> Hi,> I'd like to know if any person has experienced a great> deal of shedding from taking the birth control pill> named TRIPHASIL 21 (or the other name TRIPHASIL 28) or> if you are British- TRINORDIOL. Actually, I'd like to> hear from any person who had shedding from any name of> birth control. (If you do respond, could you please> tell what pill you were/are taking? Thank you).> What I'd also like to know is, did the shedding stop> when the pill was discontinued? Did the shedding go on> only when you first started or went off of the pill,> or did you shed during all of the time you were taking> them? Did it cause thinning around the hairline? Bald> patches? I know this is a lot of questions, but any> info would be really appreciated, as I'm trying to> decide what pill I should take. I've heard that the> birth control pill can cause some hair shedding in> some women. Thanks!> HappyBlonde

I can tell you from personal experience that when the hormones in the body are altered in some way whether because of taking or stopping birth control, menopause, taking estrogen...etc....it will often impact the hair.Whether it causes the hair to fall out more or get thicker depends on a variety of factors and is a purely individual matter.I recently went through a whole process where I was diagnosed with hypothyroidproblems.I was required to take medication which did have an impact on my hormone levels. The first 30 days after starting the medications my hair got really dry and fell out a little more than normal.I continued to take the medication but also added more Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs) to the H37 that I was already taking. The hair loss stopped and eventually my hair got thicker and softer. When my hair had seemed to stabilize and felt back to its old self, I cut back on the EFAs and took less of the H37 - Step 2.Recently my endocrinologist decided that I needed to up my dosage of thyroid meds and sure enough my hair started acting up again.Luckily I started immediately taking more H37 and more EFAs and within just 1 week, my hair was OK again.I asked my endocrinologist about this weird effect and he told me that the thyroid had control over the hormones of the body and that women who get pregnant will notice changes in their hair as do many women going through menopause. He also said that is why birth control pills will have an impact on hair as well.If you started taking birth control pills that make your hair fall out more than normal, switch to a different brand OR try taking EFAs and a good hair vitamin or a vitamin that has a good well rounded list of nutrients. If you stop taking the pill, give you hair some time (1-3 months) to adjust and also try my process of adding EFAs or hair nutrients.Hair is one of the first things to react to major changes in the body or from changes in hormones.Hope that helps.Best wishes,Karen Shelton> I'm reprinting the question from happy blonde, as I> would like to know the answer to this myself.
That which doesn't kill you makes you stronger or drives you totally insane. :-)

I've been on Depo Provera, the quarterly injection for about 3 years. During the first several months I experienced some hair thinning, all over. There are no noticiable bald spots or receding hair lines. I just know there was less hair over all. It hasn't grown back as thick as it was, but neither has the hair loss continued.During that three year period I took birth control pills, Ortho Tricyclen for six months, while my insurance company debated what was cheaper for them. During that time I saw no additioanl hair loss/growth.
