QuoteReplyTopic: question about getting my hair permed. Posted: January 12 2000 at 5:47am
I posted a few days ago and got no response, so I thought it was the way I titled my post.Hopefully someone out there can tell me what kind of perm to get for fine hair. I know it's not good for your hair, but my husband really likes perms, so I thought I'd give it a try. I've been told that the best is a spiral perm, but what about the best chemicals?
HiI noticed you hadn't gotten any responses, so here's what i can offer, although I dont claim to be a real expert on the subject, I do know some key elements:To get good results in perming, the perm should be done in a salon. Perms can vary greatly not only in quality (i.e., the ingredients/chemicals used in the formula)but also in the manner in which it is done (using rollers or another device to set the hair). those two factors make it important not to try it at home. the chemicals used are often pretty harsh, but less so if you go to a good salon. the drugstore variety of perms are definitely harsh and damaging to the hair.you should consult with your hair stylist and tell him/her what kind of look you are after. Preferably, bring in a photo of something you like. Then he or she can tell you what your options are and what type of perm is suitable to achieve the results you want.So many people have horror stories about bad, if not nightmarish home perms! Please go to a salon and get good results. I realize it's more expensive, but it's ultimately less expensive than getting someone to "fix" a perm gone bad!good luck :) silvie

Thanks for your response. Usually everyone is so helpful on this site.I have an appointment tomorrow to have my hair done. I would never allow someone to give me a home perm. It's too "permanent". My hair has been fried too many times by professionals to let some friend do it! The girl that is going to do my hair just did the owner's (of the salon) fine hair and did a great job. Hopefully she can reproduce the results on me!Thanks again for your interest and coments.

I personally reccomend Redkens Vector Plus Extra Body formula perm for most any hair that is healthy enough to perm. I have had exceptional results with this perm.Have your stylist use the 'Perm Lock' treatment during the perming process.william
