QuoteReplyTopic: Help with hair breakage (or loss?) !! Posted: January 12 2000 at 6:19am
The last couple of days I have noticed that my hair appearsthinner just at my temples where men usually lose their hair. Upon closer examination, it looks like the hairspossibly broke off, because there's lots of short hairs. This has all happened very quickly, within the last week or so.About two and a half weeks ago, I had it highlighted. I'm wondering if what I'm experiencing is breakage due to a poor highlight job? The only spot I've noticed thinning/breakage (so far) is at the temple area, and I know she usually does the front a bit more than the back so its lightest around my face.It had been about five months since my previous highlight. This time, to set in the color, the stylist used a new hairdryer that uses moist, warm air. She told me it would be quicker than the old dryer because it penetrated the hair quicker. I can't help thinking that the hair loss/breakage I'm experiencing is due to the highlight. Is that possible? It was two weeks after it that I noticed the change in my hair.
hisorry to hear you are having this problem, and yes, the breakage is likely due to a chemical service--in your case, highlighting. if the same strand(s) of hair are repeatedly subjected to bleaching, that hair will eventually weaken and break off. as to whether or not you actually got a "bad" highlight job, I'm not certain. but the colorist/stylist should be very careful not to over do it, re-bleaching the same strands...this breakage does not need to happen. so you may want to consult with him/her and also consider going to someone else to have your color done.anyway. to prevent further breakage, please try using any or all of the following. I have had success with them all. For extreme damage/breakage, use Nexxus Emergencee. This stuff is expensive but will truly bond to the hair and increase its strength and integrity. Also, try Joico K-pak alone or mixed with 25% wheat germ oil (heated briefly in the microwave, allowed to cool so as to not burn your scalp). With any of these treatments, apply to slightly damp hair, cover with a plastic cap, and leave on at least 30 minutes, preferably longer.for general maintence, do such a treatment at least once per week. always use good, high quality salon products and be very gentle with your hair. never bruch it when it's wet. you hair is now fragile and needs to be treated delicately. I believe, if you follow this regimin, your breakage will stop and your hair condition/texzture should noticable improve within a couple of weeks, if not in fact immediately.:) silvie
