I had a perm about 6 months ago. At the time of the perm, my hair was past my shoulders a couple of inches or so. When I got the perm, the lady tangled up my hair in the curler, yanking a bit of my hair, and my neck was burned a little bit by the solution of the perm (red, sensitive, irritated for about a week). The perm looked nice until about a week ago when it went frizzy. So, I went to another beautician to have the ends snipped off, hopefully to reduce the friz, and lo and behold, my hair in the back was past my bra strap!! Never, in my life, has my hair been this long!! So now, I want to grow it all long. The problem is that where the perm beautician yanked that hair and burnt my neck - a small section, about an inch wide is about an inch shorter than the rest of my hair, excluding the two layers on the very top of my head. The new beautician said that my hair is burned where that shorter section is.The new beautician also said that she could layer all of my hair, incorporating that short section, and that I wouldn't be losing much, if any back length, but that it would even out the burnt area. She said from there, I could come in for trims about every 8 to 12 weeks and within 6 months time or so, my hair would be all one length, excluding the bangs I'd like to keep.First of all, I didn't let her do that, instead, I just let her trim the frizzy ends. Is it possible that a perm does burn hair?? Is the idea of layering a good one??Thanks!

by a perm. I did when I was younger. Had burns on my neck from where the solution dripped!!! Never, ever perm!!Yes, layering your hair will even out your short piece and depending upon where the short piece is at, it should be blended with the rest of your hair. While you're in this growing out stage, do use good quality hair care products and avoid any heat appliances, i.e. blowdryers, curling irons, etc. I personally love the Aubrey Organics line. You'll also need to condition, condition, condition.Good luck to you!
