Hi Elizabeth, sounds like a touch of over processing has happened, the Clairol Kit is ok but quite a bit stronger than salon stuff, Matrix & L'Oreal both have an in salon lighteners that have no ammonia & rich oils impregnated into the lightener,L'oreals is called Majimeche & Matrix's is called- Matrix Essentials Moderations Lightest Blonde, now I have really dark hair that as an hairdresser I have tortured!!!,(I'm xtra good now!!), & I had foils of Majimeche as it only takes 15 minutes(longer for darker hair) even I was suprised with the mass amount of lightening hey but no breakage or frizz & I have fine hair that has been every colour of the spectrum(I do not advise anyone to do what I used to do, as in changing colours so much, as it has taken 1 year of just root re-touches to get it healthy again), anyway this process truly was really gentle, but I beg you to always have a strand test if you have other chemicals in your hair, hair is precious & should be treated with great care, maybe that is why I'm good now & treat my hair with respect- cause I nearly killed it!!!!, so there are a few options that should'nt hurt your hair, let me know how you go.Simone.(C). :)

I will look for the Loreal and Matrix products. Can they be found in most stores?
