Major change/can't style

I wanted a major change for the new year. I got my hair cut and permed last week. The style is now a lip length bob with a stacked back permed with fairly strong curls. My hair is thick not real thick but thick.. It looked great leaving the salon but now all I do is wear headbands because I have no control. It always looks like a pyramid. The back the sides all out of control...HELP
