my hair is naturally curly and its natural color is a neutral medium brown.about 5 months ago i dye it plum. it was supposed to stay in for 24 washes but it stayed in for a much longer period of time. i decided to dye red a couple months after the plum. that was supposed to stay in for 28 washes and its been 2 or 3 months since and its still in there and my roots are becoming quite noticeable do you think this is because of the hair products or my hair type? about a month ago i got my hair chemically relaxed and that got out a little of the red that was still in it. is there any way that i can get this stuff with out stripping it? Another thing (i know its a little random) i tried sun-in this past summer and it worked pretty good. at the end of last summer i saw a shampoo that worked like sun-in giving natural highlights but i cant find it. just wondering if you've heard of anything like this.thanks alot-elizabeth
Hi there!OK first of all, DON'T use ANY sun-in type product on Medium Brown hair... you WILL get ORANGE NOT BLONDE!! Also, b/c your hair is chemically relaxed, avoid sun-in like the plague. Now, here is a little info about so-called "24 washes" color. It is a LIE!! Chemically, it is a LIE! A demi-perm (which is what casting and natural instincts are) work EXACTLY like a permanant hair color and infact the color remains permanatly! The box claims "no ammonia" so its supposed to be gentle right? No... instead of Ammonia, they use another pH raising substance called Ethanolamine. This substance raises the pH of yourhair JUST as high as a perm. color. Demi-perms can not remove your own hair color (too little peroxide), but b/c the cuticle is opened up just as much from the high pH, the dye still penetrates LIKE a permanate hair color... hence it doesn't WASH OUT!! People may "think" it does, but this is b/c most people use a color SO close to their own hair color, that they ASSUME its their own color coming back... however, if you use one of the red shades or go much darker then your own color, you DO find out (as you did) that the color DOESN'T wash out!It is all increadibly misleading... i do not claim to have just "discovered" this... in fact, I learned all about this three years ago from Paula Begouns first "Don't Go Shopping for Hair Care products without me"... Since then, I have taken a fare share of Chemistry courses (being the pre-med major that I am), and do realize that her discovery warrants merrit!Just hang in there, and if you really want the color out, see a professional for help :)Sherry> my hair is naturally curly and its natural color is a> neutral medium brown.about 5 months ago i dye it plum.> it was supposed to stay in for 24 washes but it stayed> in for a much longer period of time. i decided to dye> red a couple months after the plum. that was supposed> to stay in for 28 washes and its been 2 or 3 months> since and its still in there and my roots are becoming> quite noticeable do you think this is because of the> hair products or my hair type? about a month ago i got> my hair chemically relaxed and that got out a little> of the red that was still in it. is there any way that> i can get this stuff with out stripping it?
