For all those who keep the old ways:
Blessings to you on Samhain Eve
Samhain is the point in the seasonal cycle where the last harvest is gathered and storage provisions made for the lean months of winter cold ahead.
The seeds released by ripened plants are accepted into the darkness of the earth and are protected until the herald of spring stirs them to life.
It is a time to honour those who have passed before - our ancestors, known or unknown. Those who lie under the earth, like the dormant seed, yet are at the same time living both through their progeny and the continuation of the wisdom they had shared with others.
So, to all my fellow celebrants may this time of gathering, honouring, contemplation and stillness be wonderous and special for you.
I shall be making my "special mead" and drinking a toast (or three ) to all those who have passed through the gate of life.
It was cool to read about this custom, thank you for sharing it. Please say a blessing for my mother, who's been gone these past seven years. Thank you.
HAPPY SAMHAIN

I shall gladly add your dear mother to the "Dedication of Light to the Beloved Ones" that shall be conducted this morning.
I hope she (and you) like birds, because as part of the ceremony the starlings, sparrows, wrens, magpies and other small woodland birds in my locale will recieve the gift of seeds to sustain them and their young through the winter-time.
