I have dark brown hair and eye brows and plan on going to salon to get my entire head colored about 2 to 3 shades lighter than my color is now (I've read all of your advice on hair coloring) but should I ask the stylist to color my brows as well? Would it look strange if I don't?

Never, ever color your eyebrows! First off, it is illegal for salons to do this. Second, do you really want to risk going blind? Or eye infections?

Our sight is so precious. Please don't do it. A good trim, keeping brows on the thin side, can do a lot. Eyebrows in their natural state tend to be darker then the hair color.

Do be careful.

It's not illegal for us to do brows in the salon.

Although our liability insurance will only cover us if we are using specific color. None of it lightens by the way.

We color our own eye brows all of the time.
And no, you would NEVER want to get anything in your eye's.... you wouldn't want to get even the approved color in your eyes.

I've been wanting to lighten my eye brows. My hair color is Wella Color Charms #811 (light blonde). My eyebrows have always been darker than even my natural hair color. I don't neccessarily want to lighten them, but soften them. They're a very harsh dark brown color that stands out on my pale skin.

Any ideas?

I know this sounds a little wierd, but what if you wore airtight goggles, like the kind used for swimming? Then you definately wouldn't get any dye in your eyes. I have dyed my eyebrows before, the only problem is that after a while your roots (on your eyebrows) start to grow out and it looks a little odd. If you do decide to dye your eyebrows be VERY careful. If you dye your hair light blond try a light neutral brown for your eyebrows.

What kind of dye do you use to do your eyebrows? Regular hair dye? Facial bleaching cream? I've heard of a lot of stuff being used before. I don't necessarily want my eyebrows noticably lighter either, just a softer look instead of a harsh, sharp color.

EWWW,
Don't use facial bleach, it might turn your eyebrows white. Use regular hair day If your eyebrows now are dark brown maybe dye them light brown.

Be very very careful....do it for a short time maybe 5 min...then take it off. You can always re-apply. You can use your reg hair color...I think the goggles sounds like a great Idea!

You just want to lighten a bit, brows that are too light or too red will look odd....and if you leave it on too long you will hit a red stage...

Again, Be very careful and also be aware of your skin, so there is no skin reaction. The skin on your face can be more sensitive... Don't GET It In YOUR EYES!! OBVIOUSLY.

I've been using facial hair cream bleach for a long time now, and it works pretty well. Here is what I do!

I mix the cream with the powdery activator (ratio of about 3 or 4 to 1) on the edge of my porcelain sink- don't do this on anything that isn't either glass or porcelain or it could damage it. I then look at the second hand of a clock. Once I have started putting the cream on, I start timing. I try to get it thick and make sure it is getting down in the roots and time it it down to the second, leaving it on for about two minutes each brow.

After time is up, I use the little thin plastic "mixing surface" that comes with the bleaching kit to scrape the bleach off while I am holding my head over the sink. Be very careful and don't get it in your eyes. Rinse the remaining bleach out with lots of water, making sure that your head is at an angle so that the water doesn't run down your face, your face should be parallel to the floor. Wipe off with a paper towel or bleach-safe washcloth or something. The bleach can go down the drain.

Please only do this for a couple of minutes at a time- you can't tell what the finished color is at first because the hair is still wet. My eyebrows are naturally pretty dark too, but they don't lift to a blonde, they become a little reddish. It's hard to tell though. I also end up using the bleach on the inner, thicker part for a little longer, and when I'm doing make-up will fill in "holes" (where the hairs are too light) with light brown eyeshadow

One thing that I haven't figured out is how to get them consistently lighter. I guess if you bleached them for a minute every two weeks, the roots wouldn't look very obvious but the ends would be very light. The eyebrow hairs are constantly falling out and regrowing too, so sometimes if you look closely after a couple of weeks they look salt-n-pepper brown and red.

If all else fails, browliner to the rescue!

Would it work to use the same dye as I use on my whole head of hair?
