Hi DJ, I'm 23 and have had very curly hair since i was 11. Until i was about16, though, it was mostly just frizz (You can imagine the nicknames my brothers had for me) You are going to have to really baby your hair, especially if you are going to subject it to a blowdryer and flat iron. Start with a shampoo and conditioner like Loreal Smooth-Intense and unless your hair is super-oily, always use a conditioner. if you have an oily scalp, apply conditioner only to the ends of your hair. When you get out of the shower, do not rub your hair or try to towel dry it too much. Just squeeze your hair with your towel to remove excess water. "MATRIX" makes some great products for straightening your hair, you can get these at a local salon. You may have to try a combination of a lotion and gel or mousse and wax, the same thing won't work for everyone. I use a lotion and gel to keep my curls under control. When blowdrying your hair, the best brush to use is a flat paddle brush and make sure that you always blowdry in a downward motion to prevent frizzies. Don't try to blowdry upside down! BIG HAIR! For the best result, always make sure your roots are completely dry, if not, this will undo all of the work you just went thru. Be careful if you feel you absolutely have to use a flat iron, this can cause major breakage if overused or not used correctly. Also, if you're subjecting your hair to a dryer and flat iron, do not wash your hair every day. Skip at least one day in between, this will help keep your hair healthly. Be sure to use a deep conditioner, hot oil treatment or masque at least semi-weekly so as not to dry your hair out. Sorry this is so long but, i hope it helps!
CO wash only since September '04! Dyed red botticelli curls (3b), fine and just past shoulder length
