Bright Ruby roots

i usually go to a salon to have my hair colored and she uses Artec hair color. i absolutely hate spending such an exhorbitant amount of money for something i might could do myself. Long story short, i bought Clairol Herbal Essences in Ruby Red which is a true deep red color. This is my usual color but it had been so long since my last color that i had faded to a medium red.
The color was great right after coloring and styling but after only a week, all of my hair except for about an inch of roots faded. i love the color it has faded to but, now i am stuck with super-bright roots. I am wondering if puting a semi-perm ashy tone will bring down the color of my roots.
I am having professional portraits done with the hubby in a week and need to fix asap.
