horrible mess.......

Here's a short timeline of my hair colouring:


August 2003-February 2004: Sucsessfully dyed my very
long, fine, naturally reddish medium/dark brown hair-black-five times over the months when needed

May 2004-Dyed hair with a permanent, dark burgundy
dye...made my brown roots red but left my somewhat faded black untouched.

June 2004-I decided to use One n' Only colorfix to remove
any permanent dye, assuming it would only affect unnatural
colours and leave my hair to be my natural colour again.
Two days ago I used colorfix, it removed a lot of the dye
but left my lighter roots very orangy and the rest of my hair
an orangy dark brown. Yesturday, I attempted to use a
bright orange permanent hair colour, leaving it on the
darker areas longer than the light roots. It had absolutely
no affect on my hair colour, but I am afraid of damage it
may have caused.

All I want is one solid colour, preferably a very dark alburn.
I'm obviously terrified of the potential of my hair falling
out, breaking eccessivly, or becoming horribly damaged.
But at the same time, I don't want these orange roots that
look quite bad considering my nearly waiste length hair. I
plan to use a few reconstructive treatments over the next
week, but I really want my embarassing colour situation
fixed as soon as possible. Would it be safe to use somthing
like Natural Instincts semi-permanent dye? I note that
there is no risk of this dye lighting my hair further as it
contains a very low amount of peroxide. It seems gentle
and worries me less than the thought of dyes with harsher
contents. Also, I really cannot afford a salon so I am stuck
with whatever I can learn on the internet. I am young and
scared...any advice? :(

oh god, I have the same problem!!! I dyed my hair dark brown (looked black) and liked it for a while but wanted to go for a burgundy color a few months later. I forgot what box I used but the results were the same as what happened to your hair. My ends (4 inches) and roots (2 inches) came out how I wanted...the color between my ends and roots is BLACK!! UGH!! My hair is also down to my waist and I'd really hate to have to chop off all my hair if I get it 'fixed' at a salon. (btw, I did go to the salon in Feb. and they didn't fix it, came out looking the same and still charged me $80. *******s)

I've been putting my hair up in a bun all these days. It's very noticeable in the sun when I have it down...blah

Elimin8 by rusk, you can get it at Ricky's or look for it online. Work from the bottom, where the color is most built up toward the top, do not use it on your roots, it takes forever, you may have to do it over and over again and you should condition like mad in between. It took me 4 days and two kits on shoulder length hair, but I only had to trim half an inch at the end.
Deep breath...About six months ago, I had been growing out black hair dye for a long time. I had been dyeing my hair black for too long and then tryed to bleach it out, it all broke off, then wound up with it black again.
I started seeing a new guy and decided the three quarters black and 1/4 natural ends look had to go...this worked! And I kept all the hair I had! When it was all out I recolored Tears of joy and keeping what i did have.
