New to the site, seems like a wealth of knowledge here. I want color but afraid of perm color, had a really bad experience and a professional did it. Want to do it myself, but don't want anything that will give my hair that brassy look. Whats good and what should I stay away from? Need all the help I can get, want to go to work Tuesday a new me.

Don't be afraid! What sort of color are u looking to achieve? I can help u out if i know what ur natural color is to begin with. I'm guessing ur hair is dark since u stated that u don't want it to turn out brassy w/ the color??

Thank you. My hair is dark, I call it dirty brown, would like to go lighter, reddish family.

If you would like a change in the red family, but not completely red, too orangy, or, as you said, brassy, I would first try something like a warm chestnut brown. It's brown, but it has subtle reddish tones to the brown. If you like that, you might want to consider moving a little redder in about a month or so.

You can find warm chestnut browns in any brand, under the same name.

good luck!

...try natural instincts. I've used that color (not on myself but with some friends), and it's had good results. You should find a couple of boxes with the phrase "chestnut brown". Decide which one would be best for you (in terms of matching skin tone and natural haircolor.)

Best of Luck!
