QuoteReplyTopic: to pay or not to pay? Posted: October 05 2004 at 1:54pm
My question is regarding color correction etiquette. I visited a salon for the first time last weekend. I got a short cut and a full color and partial hightlights. I asked for dark chocolate base and caramel hightlights. The base is VERY dark, almost black, but I will patiently wait for it to fade some, however, the highlights are beigey, yellow and not at all warm or caramel like I asked. It looks "frosted". ughhh. I have a follow-up appointment for this week...4 days after initial visit. Should I have to pay for this correction, or is it appropriate for the stylist to take care of this change without expecting more tip. The total has already cost $160. I am simply asking for more color to be added to the highlights she bleached to that level, and possibly two additional foils.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

A lot of salons have a policy where mistakes are corrected for free - as long as the client expresses his/her unhappiness within a week. I guess that makes sense - I mean, if you are unhappy with a cut or color (or god forbid, both), you usually know it either right after the service is performed, or when you get home and look in your bathroom mirror!
In my opinion, I don't think you should have to pay. You asked for a specific set of colors that the stylist did NOT give you. Plus, it's only been 4 days. If they try to make you pay, please stand your ground.
Good luck!

I went back today for the correction and all is well. She obligingly added a couple more foils and corrected the color of the highlights. I threw in a few more bucks tip, just cause she was so nice. It looks great now!
