I achieved a couple of different shades of blonde by using two hi-lift products -- Herbal Essences XL10 and Feria Pure Diamond and foils. My natural colour was auburn so I ended up with three shades in my hair -- low lights of auburn, a med. warm blonde and a light honey blonde. Long story short -- I foolishly did some other stuff to my hair a couple of days later and ended up dying it brown.

Two weeks ago I found an even easier way to get a couple of different colours. I used L'Oreal Creme Lights. (It's the most gentle bleach I've ever used.) My hair is too long for a cap, so I used a denture brush and stroked the bleach mixture through my hair. I waited a few minutes and then did finer highlights with a toothbrush (being sure not to overlap). By the time I was finished, about 90% of my hair was highlighted. Since the second round of bleach wasn't on my hair as long as the first round, it didn't get as light. (I also added a few lighter highlights around my face the next day with another box of Creme Lights.) Then, I toned with Born Blonde Winsome Wheat to make my colour look more natural (less yellow). I'm really happy with the results. I think I'll be able to wait about 8 weeks between touch-ups because my roots aren't as obvious as they would be with an all-over bleach job.

I did do it myself. It's the first home hair colour job I haven't totally screwed up. I swear, Creme Lights are idiot-proof.
