Hi! I'm sorry to hear about ur dilema! The reason this happened on ur hair was becuz when light-haired pple try to go dark it turns a funny color becuz there was probably a lot of purple, red, or green in the brown dye base. Wht u should have done (apart from seeing a pro!) was to use a filler on ur hair before applying the dye to counter-act any "unusual;" colors from showing up on ur light hair. Anyways, don't panic, there are many options.
You COULD get a color remover from sally's and take the dye off, preferably Colorfix, but u might have to recolor.
Or u could re-dye it w/ the same shade which would even out the color more, or get one w/ more gold in it like susan W. mentioned.
Btw, these are suggestions for u if u don't have time or don't wanna go to the hairdressers.
Or u could just have it bleached out, but i personally wouldn't recommend that as its really stressful on the hair to prelighten it if it has dye, (even if ur hair is in good condition) and could result in uneveness. Moreover, Feria is really strong and ESPECIALLY hard to bleach out. I here even most pro's hesitate bleaching color out if it's Feria!
I suggest performing a strand test to prevent any further disasters.
The good thing to know is that red fades reallllly fast so u don't need to worry to much abt the purple staying in ur hair. ;)
Remember whtever u do, make sure to deep condition afterwards!!
Even if u use a color remover ur most likely gonna have to recolor, or in other words tone it, the same applies to bleaching.
If the color has alot of red in it, i also suggest getting a colorist to apply a green-based toner to counter-act the reddish magenta color and u'll end up w/ a rich nat. brown shade.
However, since i we don't know wht ur hair looks like, i strongly recommend seeing a colorist and they'll decide the best option for u.
But whtever u choose to do...all the best! :)

I would suggest you go to a salon and have it fixed.

You need a brown shade with a gold base to counter the purple. If it's more of a magenta shade (purple, but more of a red shade of purple) use a brown with a green base. You would have to get that at a beauty supply shop and buy 10 volume developer to use it with.

I did something really dumb and now I need some help.

I usually have fairly light blonde hair with some red undertones. I was trying to go for a deep rich brown so I used Feria 41, crushed garnet, on my hair and it turned bright maroon and purple.

How can I correct this to a medium brown?
Do I need to use color remover before I correct?

Fortunately, my hair is extremely resilient so I can pretty much do whatever is needed without trashing it.

I'm a school teacher and had to call in sick today to take care of this mess. I am so embarrassed!
