I just got my hair done yesterday, with a chestnut base and golden brown highlights, the highlights turned out red. Not that big of a deal, but I've decided next time I want to get all the redness out of my hair and go to a cholocate brown. My hair dresser said the only way she can do this is to depigmentize or repigmentize (not sure which she said) my hair. What exactly does this mean, will I have no color on my hair when she does it, or will it just take out the processed color? Also is this damaging, and if so, how can I make it less damaging to my hair?

If she said depigmentize, she probably means something like colorfix to remove all the color, making your hair yellow or orange, then recoloring with new color. If she said repigmentize, she'll just dye it again over what you already have on there with a different shade, so no, you're hair won't be colorless in that situation.

Putting any chemicals on your hair is damaging, but it depends on your hair. If your hair can take a lot, it probably won't be bad. You haven't dyed it that many times. Test strands are the best thing to do, and they should be willing to do test strands at the salon. Depig or repig would be about equal in the amount of damage they would each do.

As for what you can do, the only way to get rid of damage is to not get it in the first place, there's nothing you can do afterwards but thoroughly condition to try to keep it manageable. The test strand will show you if it's too damaged to do or not.

Edited because I'm not fully awake yet...
