I've been colouring my hair exclusively in salons for the last 3 years. I "broke up" with my stylist recently after one mistake too many happened and I'm thinking about doing my own colour at home. Is it safe to apply box colour over salon colour? I'd only do my roots but obviously some of the colour will spread onto already coloured hair.

Depends on wht ur natural color is and wht color the dyed hair is. If ur matching the same shade and going darker then u could go ahead w/ it w/out worrying abt anything unpredictable happening.

U could try popping into sally's and getting the all the sutff u need to DIY or find another stylist. I think if want to go w/ the first option u should get one of the high-lift blonde shades and a high volume of developer (30 or 40 vol.) But u mention having highlights in ur hair which makes doing it yourself even more complicated. But 9-1 isn't too far from 8-1 i guess so u could go ahead w/ touching up ur roots.

BTW, do u live n england? Cuz i know that u can't professional stuff from sally's over there, like igora royal color and koleston perfect. That way u can get the same colors that were used in ur hair.

I thought of getting the DIY stuff but thought that maybe I could simplify things by going with box colour. I don't mind about the highlights as they're subtle and I usually had them done every 4th visit

Unfortunatley u can't actually get a box color that will be strong enough to lift ur natural color to blonde. U could always try the new ferai color booster metallic blondes tho. I dunno how effective these shades are tho. Good luck!

Actually, I'm in Canada. I can get Koleston but we don't have Sally's here. Thanks for your advice, I may try test strands with box colour and then go back to Koleston from there if necessary.
