I had dyed my hair med blonde for years, but the roots had been getting progressively darker. Since I dye at home I couldn't match the roots to my natural hair color (I don't do 2 process). Anyway, I had my hair taken back to dark brown- (professionally-she used Redken EQ shades).

I want to maintain this new darker shade, but it fades after a few weeks. I really can't afford to have this done professionally on a regular basis, although if I could I would, my hairsylist is sooo worth it. Anyway, can I use a very similar shade of natural instincts on top of this to perk up my color and hide a few grays? I just love the dimension I have now and don't want to end up with muddy/flat hair. Would I leave it on the roots for 5 and then the rest for 5? --Thanks

The most gentle way would be for you too refresh your haircolor and do your roots at the same to would be to use either an acidic demi or Color by Robert Craig

It doesn't contain any ammonia or peroxide, just remember to pick a shade 1 or 2 levels lighter than the target level you're going for since dyed and porous hair absorbs the color much more than virgin hair.
